How To Stop Worrying

First we must recognise what worry is. It’s the brains attempt to make sure we are prepared in advance, yet it can prevent us from sleeping as we get stuck in the ‘worry’ feeling and don’t progress or process it to find worry’s true message which may be very useful to us used in the right way.

If you are a worrier,  know that worrying never solved a problem. I mean, can you remember the last time a tricky situation resolved itself as a result of you worrying? The answer is most likely “No”.

So why is it worriers convince themselves that if they keep worrying somehow everything will be better. Could worrying actually just be a bad habit that you just do?

Why you don’t stop worrying

The reason we’re reluctant to stop worrying is because by stopping it feels as if we’re losing focus or taking our eye off the problem. You can learn how to release your stress and finally be free of your worries.

I believe you can retrain yourself how to get to sleep and insomnia is one of the most common issues I get to help people with in my Birmingham NLP and hypnotherapy practice.

This is how I help people to get a good nights sleep, this work involves two main strategies. The first is to train the mind to think and behave sleepily when it is time for sleep.

This is teaching you exactly how to alter your the way you do your thoughts (whatever they are). using NLP. Hypnosis is also used to simply suggest, via a host of techniques , that you sleep when appropriate.

Either approach has been successful for people. I use both approaches as a combination of the two seems to be the most effective.

Phantom limb pain help

Phantom limb pain can be helped with NLP and hypnotherapy. Birmingham Hypnotherapist Debbie Williams shares several simple strategies which can be used to ease the pain of a phantom limb.

Rosie’s brother didn’t get phantom limb pain

Rosies brother didn’t get phantom limb pain despite being in a horrific car accident. Rosie played my free ‘spontaneous remission ‘ recording to him over and over when he was in a coma for 55 days.

When he came out of the coma he had no phantom limb pain at all. Rosie played the hypnotherapy recording to him over and over and she share in the video how it helped her also deal with the situation. This is the second of 2 videos where Rosie speaks about it.

PTSD how your mind thinks

How your mind thinks about things will effect the way you feel. Sometimes using the analogy of the mind being like a TV station which plays internal movies is very useful as that is in fact what our mind does.

And if the movies are bad ones it can affect us by preventing a good nights sleep, keeping us awake because the recording equipment inside our mind is faulty and is stuck on the same movies over and over again.

NLP for PTSD, positive changes stick

And the positive changes have ‘stuck’ not only was he able to release many painful memories of serving in Iraq and the awful things he witnessed at a very young age. He’d only had his passing out parade a few days before 911 and then was posted to serve in Iraq.

His best friend James died in his arms and he kept replaying this ‘internal movie’ over and over night after night it just wouldn’t go away yet within one session it had gone. Debbie helped him to change the ending to a more positive one in which he imagined James safe in heaven and looking down on him as his guardian angel telling him everything was going to be fine.

PTSD Soldier in Birmingham

PTSD had stopped Birmingham soldier Craig Burgess from living his life to the full as he was plagued with the images of his best friend dying in his arms.

PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder to give it its proper name can destroy lives, yet with good NLP and hypnotherapy the way a person remembers and stores the memory of the traumatic event can be changed to allow the person to get on with their lives.

 

PTSD the TV in Mind

If we view the mind as a TV and think of it playing the same episode of the event over and over in a loop then this goes someway to explaining how it feels to be tortured with events preceding the onset of post traumatic stress disorder.

If you watch this video ( and the follow up ones) of Birmingham soldier Craig Burgess you will see how I used this as a metaphor and helped him to turn down the sound on his ‘mind movies’ and drain the colour out.

NLP for PTSD

I could of freeze framed it or any number of other possibilities to change the memory allowing it to be updated and re-presented in his mind in a better more useful way. This is NLP at work.

I also suggested alternative endings to his ‘mind movies’ of seeing his best friend going to a better place as well as suggesting if James was here now what would he be saying to help you to let go of this right now.

Being a hypnotist, I would subtly mark out the phrase ‘let go of it right now’ and other useful phrases to help ensure we got the positive result that Craig and I wanted.

I also used post hypnotic suggestions that all his ‘mind movies’ would have positive endings and closure from now on resulting in the best nights sleep.

PTSD Why Get Help

With Craig, he contacted me for help as he knew he was having nightmares over and over about what he had seen in Iraq and wanted them to stop.

What really frightened him was sometimes he didn’t realise he’d had a nightmare and his parents had filmed him one night to show him.

Unfortunately this added to his stress as now he worried ‘What if I harm my 5 year old daughter within one of these nightmares and not even know about it” as you can imagine is a terrible thought and burden for anyone to carry.
