Critical parent; help to cope

If you had/have a critical parent and they still seem to impact negatively on your life, then this simple strategy will help to transform the way you think about them. Even parents who were abusive towards us, this may help release you from some of the pain.

Being criticised is hard to take

Any form of criticism can be hard to take and coming from a critical parent can impact on your sense of self.

Luckily, using NLP we can change the way we feel about this by how we ‘re-frame’ them in our mind.

Stuck with their criticism

It can seem as if we have our ‘critical parent’ inside our mind constantly chastising us and telling us our faults. This does wonders for our self esteem…Not!

Questions to transform the criticism

Questions we can ask to transform the hold a critical parent has on us includes;

What have they taught me?

It could even be ‘how not to be’ if that makes sense. One client of mine had been treated dreadfully, I mean dreadfully, not only by her mother but other family members, yet she has become a fantastic mother as she knows what not to do!

What useful things have they given me?

I’m not talking about material things, more so about character traits, maybe stubbornness , ability to stand your ground or maybe you’ve cultured kindness as they were not kind to you.

What have you not thought about until now, that you have learned from your critical parent that has been a huge asset to you?

Start a list about your critical parents traits, lessons and useful things you have learned to do, or not do because of them.

How to get over breaking up

How to get over breaking up with someone is never easy especially if you are still in love with that person and your heart is breaking.

The advice in this video about breaking up with someone and moving on after a break up may help you understand the stages of grief you go through at the end of a relationship as after breaking up with someone can leave you feeling lonely and lost.

Being dumped in a relationship is never pleasant, in fact it can feel devastating as now it seems like you have no future to look forward to any more.

Getting over a break up can sometimes give you “break up depression” which is temporary because as you get over your heartbreak and start to mend that broken heart, many times you become stronger in spite of it, but this takes time.

Breaking up, writing a letter

Writing a break up letter can help you deal with the relationship breaking up even if its a marriage break up, allowing your words to flow out on paper helps unburden jumbled thoughts and emotions.

NLP and good hypnotherapy can put a future back in your life so you start to look forward again, helping to heal some of the pain and get you through the early stages of a break up.

Phantom limb pain help

Phantom limb pain can be helped with NLP and hypnotherapy. Birmingham Hypnotherapist Debbie Williams shares several simple strategies which can be used to ease the pain of a phantom limb.

Rosie’s brother didn’t get phantom limb pain

Rosies brother didn’t get phantom limb pain despite being in a horrific car accident. Rosie played my free ‘spontaneous remission ‘ recording to him over and over when he was in a coma for 55 days.

When he came out of the coma he had no phantom limb pain at all. Rosie played the hypnotherapy recording to him over and over and she share in the video how it helped her also deal with the situation. This is the second of 2 videos where Rosie speaks about it.

Stop drinking wine

Help to stop drinking wine excessively. Sometimes we get into bad habits of drinking more than we know is good for us.

The occasional glass of wine midweek with a meal can sometimes build up into a daily occurrence.

How to stop drinking wine

Debbie Williams explains a simple strategy on this video which if you implement it will help curb your wine drinking habit. By having a plan you can break the habitual almost unconscious choice of drinking wine more often than you wish.

Its socially acceptable to drink alcohol but when you find it difficult to stop it can seem alarming and you wonder are you going down the slippery slope of becoming an alcoholic.

Wine drinking can contribute to being overweight

Drinking wine or any alcohol for that matter can add a tremendous amount of calories to your diet. But more than this is can actually trigger a false hunger making you eat unnecessarily more food than you planned = weight gain or sabotaging weight loss goals.

The one way it does this is after a drink of wine ( or any other alcohol) the internal dialogue shuts up. You know the inner voice that tells us what we should or should not do.

Our inner voice is quietened which also can let you think you need alcohol to relax and shut the mind chatter up.

Stop drinking wine with NLP tip one

We can stop drinking wine with the use of many strategies within NLP. One of which is to have a plan ie;

Only drink alcohol at weekends, making it a rule you stick to.

Perhaps cutting back to every other day of drinking wine.

Also cutting back the amount ie; 1-2 glasses instead of 1-2 bottles.

Having a written down plan makes it much more likely to be successful as it’s concrete and there in black and white.

PTSD Soldier in Birmingham

PTSD had stopped Birmingham soldier Craig Burgess from living his life to the full as he was plagued with the images of his best friend dying in his arms.

PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder to give it its proper name can destroy lives, yet with good NLP and hypnotherapy the way a person remembers and stores the memory of the traumatic event can be changed to allow the person to get on with their lives.

 

PTSD the TV in Mind

If we view the mind as a TV and think of it playing the same episode of the event over and over in a loop then this goes someway to explaining how it feels to be tortured with events preceding the onset of post traumatic stress disorder.

If you watch this video ( and the follow up ones) of Birmingham soldier Craig Burgess you will see how I used this as a metaphor and helped him to turn down the sound on his ‘mind movies’ and drain the colour out.

NLP for PTSD

I could of freeze framed it or any number of other possibilities to change the memory allowing it to be updated and re-presented in his mind in a better more useful way. This is NLP at work.

I also suggested alternative endings to his ‘mind movies’ of seeing his best friend going to a better place as well as suggesting if James was here now what would he be saying to help you to let go of this right now.

Being a hypnotist, I would subtly mark out the phrase ‘let go of it right now’ and other useful phrases to help ensure we got the positive result that Craig and I wanted.

I also used post hypnotic suggestions that all his ‘mind movies’ would have positive endings and closure from now on resulting in the best nights sleep.

PTSD Why Get Help

With Craig, he contacted me for help as he knew he was having nightmares over and over about what he had seen in Iraq and wanted them to stop.

What really frightened him was sometimes he didn’t realise he’d had a nightmare and his parents had filmed him one night to show him.

Unfortunately this added to his stress as now he worried ‘What if I harm my 5 year old daughter within one of these nightmares and not even know about it” as you can imagine is a terrible thought and burden for anyone to carry.
